Suicide?
Topic: Basic
I've found out the hard way to leave as little room as possible along the back side of the tank. The reason for this is because numerous aquatic life will escape if given the chance. I've have found dead snails behind the tank. Smelt nastiness when coming in the door (a smell I've've come to recognize) which lead me to look behind the tank. I've found a few bala sharks that way. Frogs and seem to be good at escaping as well.

Feeding (bet you didn't think of this)
Topic: Basic
Nocturnal fish i.e. plecos and such feed only at night. So if you put rounds or waffers in during the day they most likely wont eat. just throw in two or three (depending on size) before going to sleep.

Feeding
Topic: Basic
You should feed two to three times a day. Feed a variety of different food to your fish. If you think about it fish don't eat the same thing day in day out in the wild. So why would you feed them the same thing . Your fish will "blow up" in size, have more brilliant colors, ane be more happiy over all. As always read learn before deciding what to feed.

Water Changes
Topic: Basic
I made the mistake of pulling out 1/4 of the water every week with a modified milk jug and dumped it into a bucket. also I am aware of people who fill it up as it evaporates. This is unacceptable, and I wish someone would have told me. Use a siphon, they vacuum the gravel and pull out all the bacteria and nasties you don't want in the tank. This will make a huge difference and help avoid old tank syndrome.
